Symposium on Mental health care insurance (24th Feb, 2014)

Importance of Mental health care insurance D. Dutta Roy ISI., Kolkata Number of new policies in health insurance is growing after privatization. It mainly covers general health insurance rather mental health care insurance (MHCI) though World Health Organization predicted 20% growth of mental illness in India. There is no systematic study on insurance needs of the beneficiaries. As a result, many mentally ill people are under-insured or non-insured. This  causes difficulty to provide adequate mental health care through systematic insurance policies and schemes. On the other hand they are stigmatized by the society and sometimes they are abused. Abuse aggravates the severity of the symptoms.   Mental health care system in India is plagued with lot of stigma still now. Major stigma is collective unwillingness of society to provide adequate financial assistance to the mentally ill people. Again, this causes serious sufferings on family members of the mentally ill. Psychoinformatics in Mental health care

PSYCHIATRIC DATA WAREHOUSE: It is the clinical data repository (CDR)  of single patient. Typical data types which are often found within a CDR include: clinical laboratory test results, patient demographics, pharmacy information, radiology reports and images, pathology reports, hospital admission, discharge and transfer dates, ICD-9 codes, discharge summaries, and progress notes.     The use of Clinical Data Repositories could provide a wealth of knowledge about patients, their medical conditions, and their outcome. The database could serve as a way to study the relationship and potential patterns between disease progression and management. The term "Medical Data Mining" has been coined for this method of research. Past epidemiological studies may not have had as complete of information as that which is contained in a CDR, which could lead to inconclusive data/results. The use of medical data mining and correlative studies using the CDR could serve as ...

Rabindrik Psychotherapy

Image
The basic idea of any Psychotherapy is to control the self, to control the environment and to develop self-help skill so that individual can enjoy positive experience in life.  When we study Rabindra sangeet (songs composed by Rabindranath Tagore), this self-control is observed. .."   S Self-control occurs through understanding consciousness layers. There are three layers of consciousness - Murta, Raag, and Saraswat. When one experiences saraswat layer, he does not want to make any discrimination between self and the surroundings as he finds harmony with the surroundings. Here is one song where in we find change from negative forces to positive forces. Tagore suggested this change is possible by awakening th...

Globalization, Technology and Manuscript writing

Documentation of ideas and their explanation initially started on leaves  The late middle ages in England saw a flowering of scientific writing in the vernacular, taking English discourse in new directions and establishing new textual genres. Besides English, Latin and German were used. Usually, figures and and their illustrations were documented.  Gradually, it is moving from experiential to empirical research.   Empirical research is gaining ground for its systematic presentation and objectivity. It is becoming more flourished with the advent of statistical communication in the manuscript. Statistical communication helps in understanding  extent of variation and the probability. Martin Seligman and Positive Psychology

Image
Martin Seligman coined the term - Positive Psychology. It focuses on positive functioning of human being. He suggested self-help techniques: Dr Martin Seligman is the founder of Positive Psychology and explores the latest research in his new book Flourishing. One of his key areas of work has been the infusing of Positive Psychology training with the 1.1 milli on officers of the US army. Rather than focusing on adding additional funds to programs for injured soldiers, his response was to create a training system for the army where officers can become better, stronger and happier people. Why do this? Because the stronger and more emotionally resilient you are, the better you will be able to respond to pressure, crisis and tragedy. Emotionally resilient people after a traumatic event still ‘go through hell’ but rather than remaining traumatised for years afterwards, they actually grow to become emotionally stronger. Now does that mean you should forget about assisting the chronically t...
