That is also my first experience in watching inside beauty of the hall and the Birla Temple situated on the way to Gariahat. My dear daughter is with me. Amrita with her father greeted me at the main gate. She gave us 2 guest cards and helped me to sit almost at near the stage. Her brother Aniruddha also assisted me. She introduced with her elder sister Ms. Ruchira Panda, one famous dancer and instrumentalist. I have never seen veena. First time, I saw Veena. Inspiration came from my student

Yes! He was a hard task master, greatest critique of my work when I was trying to develop the concept of Spiritual health of Organization based on Indian ethos, he has made me cry day in and day out and was the person who was never satisfied with my quality of work!!. But ALL THESE BEHAVIOUR OF HIS WAS A BLESSING OF HIM SHOWERED TO ME IN DISGUISE as it made me more self reliant, assertive, more divergent thinker. As we moved through various phases of research sir BECAME MY GREATEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION as he chiseled out all the potentialities in me as a researcher. He made me experience ALL THE SORROWS, PAINS AND JOYS OF RESEARCH and the day I saw my thesis in the bounded volume , it was an out of the world feeling, may be a feeling very similar a mother has when she sees her child is born! My research work is really my baby whom I have nurtured through the gestation period of five and half years, under the guidance of sir, whose way of guidance prevented me from taking wrong steps i

Prof. Moreno, Indian Doctor and her approach on Music therapy

I like Professor Moreno's approach as he tends to invent music out of the participants. But one of the major problems is its failure to standardize the music for different ailments. Dr. T.Mythilly of Apollo hospital standardized music for different ailments. Her website is : http://www.emusictherapy.com/ One is active mode of music therapy. The other one is passive mode of music therapy. I quote from her web: Definition Music therapy is a new form of approach to help children and adults, who have problematic behaviors, to make effective adjustments toward social , emotional, mental and educational aspects, where brain plays a dominant role. Many of the imbalances in the so called normals may also be made set right by regular exposure to certain raagas with special empahasis on certain notes. Music Therapy acts on the human beings before being transformed into thought and feelings. Music Therapy is of two modes of presentation. One is passive mode or passive form of music therapy wh

Music Therapy

Touching a chord Shamik Bag http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=246019 Kolkata, July 14: Anny, his ‘little speechless boy’,writes British author Nick Hornby in his book 31 Songs, remains shrouded under a blanket of silence. Diagnosed as autistic, along with a taste for salt and vinegar crisps and peanut-butter sandwiches, Danny, writes the fascinated father, has grown a taste for music too, even coining a word for it: ‘goggo’. ‘And he seems to be developing tastes, too’, writes Hornby. ‘A couple of weeks ago, in the car, he listened quite happily not to his usual nursery rhymes but to Tapestry, but when the CD-changer switched to Louis Armstrong’s Hot Fives and Sevens, an outraged cry came from the back seat: ‘Goggo! Goggo!’ Louis Armstrong, the man who single-handedly created one of the most important musical idioms of the twentieth century, did not, apparently, create music. So we moved on to Nick Lowe instead, and he (Danny) was happy again.

Poverty Alleviation Strategies

Yesterday, I got invitation from American Centre to attend lecture of Prof. Maurice Albertson of Colorado University. Professor is engaged in various poverty alleviation project. He developed one website where in you can find his contribution in India. Many dignitaries of different NGOs were invited there. Professor's strategy is very simple: 1. Go to people and ask them what do they want to change ? 2. What are the barriers for change ? 3. How do they overcome the barrier ? 4. Design training program. 5. Train the people at the service centre. Participants were thankful to Professor for his democratic approach in poverty alleviation but few of them were sceptical about people empowerment and they pointed out the results of women empowerment in Singur and Nandigram. Finally, moderator asked us different strategies to alleviate the poverty. I told them it is the earnest need of our society to stop urban mindset among the rural people through educational curriculum. If we make them

Marketing Research Models

I find interest in following models: market segmentation modeling, concept testing and new product forecasting, advanced experimental design for conjoin t and discrete choice problems, discrete choic e modeling, interactive methods of examining advertising effectiveness, data mining methods, and marketing mix modeling. Market basket analysis Perceived Product Quality To understand consumer purchase behavior, it is necessary to look at consumers' perceptions of the quality and value of a product. It is also necessary to consider consumers' perceptions of what they must give up, i.e., perceived monetary and nonmonetary price. Perceived quality is not equivalent to objective quality; it cannot be measured in terms of technical superiority or adherence to physical standards. Perceived quality is an abstract evaluation or judgment of a product that is formed from intrinsic attributes of the product (e.g., physical characteristics) and extrinsic attributes that are not part of th

Assessing organizational commitment

Mowday, Porter, and Steers ( 1982 ) offered a definition of organizational commitment which has three components: (a) a strong belief in and acceptance of organizational goals and values, (b) a willingness to exert considerable effort on behalf of the organization, and (c) a strong desire to maintain membership in the organization. Research on organizational commitment has been examined primarily in relation to turnover ( Ferris & Aranya, 1983 ; Hom, Katerberg, & Hulin, 1979 ; Huselid & Day, 1991 ; Mowday, Steers, & Porter, 1979 ; O'Reilly & Caldwell, 1980 ; Steers, 1977 ; Stumpf & Hartman, 1984 ; Wiener & Vardi, 1980 ). Other research has established a relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intentions ( Angle & Perry, 1981 ; Bedeian & Armenakis, 1981 ) and organizational commitment and job performance ( Meyer, Paunonen, Gellatly, Goffin, & Jackson, 1989 ). Individuals who are committed to the organization are less likely to leav

Assessing attitude towards infrastructure

Image
Assessing attitude towards school infrastructure in rural areas is my present project. In this connection, I initially visited Ananda ashram Sarada school at Bonhooghly on 17 th May. There, I found group learning situation for classess IV and V. All the students were happy in this condition. It helps in getting feedback from friends of similar age through face to face communication. It appears to me that congested condition in their sitting did not disturb their performance. Next I met some of the teachers. From them, I learned that students coming from poor socio economic status are usually better in mathematics with non mental maths. As I assumed, it is noted that students having high difficulty in linguistic expression scored poor in mathematics. I prepared one bengali version questionnaire based on the theory, experiences and interview with the teachers of above school. Next day, 18 th May, I met Dr. Sandhya Das, officer in charge of DIET, Joynagar with questionnaire. She introduc

GLOBALIZATION AND CHALLENGES IN CAREER GUIDANCE

Dr. D. Dutta Roy Psychology Research Unit Indian Statistical Institute 203, B. T. Road Kolkata – 700 108 Respected Rotarian Professor R.J. Pande, Rotarian Mr. Partha Mukhopadhyay, Rotarian Mr. Das and other office bearers of Rotary club, the invited students, I wish you all first “ A very Happy New Year”. In this year, I am going to present one of the most complex issue of career guidance that I conceptualised recently. What do you want to be in future ? The most difficult question in today’s world of globalisation as labour market is expanding from local to domestic, domestic to international and from international to trans-national. Dual labour economy is reducing, a large increase in the relative size of immigrant workforce, growing prevalence of non standardized work arrangements and rapid job restructuring. Due to rapid job restructuring, most of the today’s job does not exist when we were young. No one can predict the future with certainty. But this globalisation should not be co
