Inaugural speech in Workshop on Psychometrics and SPSS

23.1.2010

Good morning and very happy New Year!.Today is the birth centenary day of the great freedom fighter- Netaji Subhash Chundra Bose. Let stand up for 1 minute to show our tribute to him. Netaji taught us how to be self-efficacious person by scanning and regulating the environment to achieve the goal. I am praying that through this workshop , you will be able to be self efficacious in measuring psychological test characteristics using SPSS.

I am thankful to my dear colleague Shri Kranti Srivastava, the chief of Prasad Psycho Corporation, for giving me privilege to share my research studies to the interested research workers and faculties of Delhi and adjoining states.
Yesterday, I visited the office of PPC and noted a very good academic climate and systematic storage of Indian and foreign psychological instruments.

I am thankful to Ms. Zehra khan, event manager of this workshop. I can understand how much toil she had to organize in Delhi. I am also thankful to other members of PPC, Ms. Banashree Deka, Ms. Britti, Ms. Aditi Kulkarni for their effort to publish Psyber News.

Last but not least, I am thankful to Professor Shyam Manikkam of Indian Psychologist group of Yahoo to spread the message of workshop.

In this August gathering, I feel the blessing of my Late Supervisor Professor Amitava Chatterjee of IIT., Kharagpur, Professor Prabal Chatterjee of Calcutta University and Professor Girishwar Mishra, the Editor of Psychological studies and Professor Manas Mandol, the Director of DIPR.

I have accepted the request of Prasad Psycho Corporation for two main reasons. I have received many requests from students and faculties of Delhi and adjoining states like Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana to organize workshop in Delhi. I told them that it was very costly to organize such program. So one university or research institute can organize it. I am thankful to PPC for giving me privilege to serve the request of students.

Second, I like to develop a good community of Psychologists who will prefer different methods and measurement sciences imbibed in psychology.
When APA journals are giving much priority on method and statistical issue, it is not worthy to concentrate on only qualitative information disregarding quantitative techniques.
