OBJECTIVES: After completion of this course, students will understand basic concepts of psychology and its relation with performing art therapy. They will understand determinants of child development and basic concepts of Mental health (30 classes)

COURSES:
A. Introduction : Scope of Psychology in performing art therapy, Sensation, and perception, attention, short and long term memory, classical conditioning, trial and error and operant conditioning. Thinking, Intelligence (8 classes)

B. Child development: Characteristics and determinants of development - Heredity and Environment, Brain localization and behaviour, Physical development, Language development, Emotional development, Intellectual development, Social development, Personality development. (12)

C. Personality: Characteristics of personality, Psychodynamic theories of personality,

Adler and Bandura’s model of personality (4 classes)

C. Mental health: Principles of mental health. Models of adjustment and maladjustment, Characteristics of positive mental health, Frustration and types of conflict, defense mechanisms. Illusion, Hallucination and Delusion. (6 classes)

POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE COURSE ON PERFORMING ART THERAPY
PAPER: PSYCHOLOGY
OBJECTIVES: After completion of this course, students will understand assessment, social behavior and classification of psychiatric disorders and basic principles of counseling and guidance. (34 classes)

1. Assessment: Principles of assessment, Psychophysics, Assessing musical and non-musical memory, Musical intelligence, Musical imagery, Working memory (7 classes)
2. Consciousness : Outer, inner and inner-core layer of consciousness, Altered consciousness (3 classes)
3. Social psychology : Barriers of communication, Attitude, values and measurement, Leadership and Group morale (6 classes)
4. Children with special needs: Mentally challenged, visually and auditory disorder, Autistic disorder, Cerebral palsy (5 classes)
5. Abnormal Psychology: History and development, Models of abnormal psychology, Code of Ethics and Professional conduct and legal aspects of psychiatric care (3 classes).
6. Counseling and Guidance : Directive and non-directive counseling, Case history taking, assessing counseling needs using performing art and psychological instruments, School psychology, Performing art in geriatric counseling and guidance, educational guidance, Marital conflict and counseling, Community guidance (10 classes)

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA COURSE ON PERFORMING ART THERAPY (2nd Year)
PAPER: PSYCHOLOGY

OBJECTIVE: After completion of this course, students will assist therapist and psychiatrists in examining the patient. They will be able to provide minimum psychiatric care to the patient (42 classes)

Stress and Coping: Theories of Stress, Stress adaptation syndrome and its management,
Stressors and illness, Stress adaptation theory and model of psychiatric care, Effect of disaster, war, violence, terrorism & trauma on individuals and groups (7 classes)

Therapeutic Communication and interpersonal relationship: Techniques of therapeutic communication, Barrier of communication with specific reference to psychopathology, Therapeutic Attitudes and personality traits, Therapeutic

Nurse- Patient relationship (5 classes)

Causes, clinical features, psychopathology and management of patients with mental health Problems: Classification of Psychiatric disorders following DSM and ICD, Multi-Axial system, Global assessment of functioning (GAF) for adult and children scale,Neurotic and Psychotic disorders, Childhood disorders, Trauma, self-destructive and suicidal behaviour, Conduct disorder, Personality disorder, Problems related to sexual development, Eating disorders, Substance abuse disorders and Organic mental disorders (12 classes)

Assessment and Diagnosis of Mental Disorders: Case-history taking for Adult and Child, Physical examination, Neurological examination, Mental status examination, Psychometric assessment, Investigations: EEG, CAT Scan, MRI Scan, etc., Assessing co-morbidity and social functioning ( 10 classes)

Current treatment modalities and role of the care giver: Psychopharmacology: Anti-psychotic drugs, Electro convulsive therapy, Psychoanalytic therapy, Behaviour therapy and Group therapy (8 classes)
