My vision about Psychological Assessment

It is my pleasure to inform you that National Academy of Psychology (NAOP) bestowed upon me the responsibility of division convener of the Psychological Assessment.

Dear Distinguished Professors of NAOP

I am grateful to Professor Suar for selecting  my name as the convener of Psychological Assessment of NAOP.  Below are my few observations about problems of Indian Psychological Assessment.

1. Dependency on foreign test materials.
2. Failure to tap Indian scenario in assessment of psychological construct. This happens due to overemphasis on psychological constructs conceptualized by the Non-Indians.
3. Over emphasis on hypothesis driven, experimentally controlled structured data rather on data driven, minimal controlled by researcher and randomized unstructured data.
4. Over emphasis on statistical software disregarding assessment of data quality or data fit with required statistics.
5. Relating to focused area, researchers paid less focus on scheduled tribes, untouchables, people under poverty and unorganized labor force like agricultural farmers.
6. Priority on experimental research specially on cognitive abilities rather on social experimental psychology to explore social cognition.
7. Emphasis on assessing structured rather unstructured variable like performing arts.

As the convener, I want to do followings
1. Emphasis on human resource development for mixed pedagogy research. Here mixed pedagogy includes two areas
1a) Qualitative and Quantitative data generation, analysis and knowledge discovery
1b) Hypothesis and data driven structured, unstructured, non random and random data analysis and discovery of knowledge.

Recently, I coined the term psychoinformatics in Psychological Research. Psycho-informatics comprises four disciplines - computer sciences, information sciences, statistics and psychology and allied sciences.

It has been accepted by the International conference on Measuring behaviour held in Netherlands.  Please look at the URL:

I conducted workshop on psychoinformatics in Nepal, Pakistan and recently in Kolkata with the support of Indian Institute of Psychometry, Indian Statistical Institute and Indian Academy of Applied Psychology. Vide the URL

2. Encourage writing book on fundamental tools of psychological assessment in different languages so that researchers across North, west, southern, east and north-eastern states can understand and can develop local dialect and culture based psychological construct.

3. Encourage researchers to write computer programs so that they will not depend on others and will be self-efficacious in research.

4. Will create online tutorial to know about research methodology. I personally developed one in the facebook. Vide the site:

5. Will relate psychological assessment with other disciplines of social sciences. In this connection, I have done few researches on public finance. Now, I am the member of the Governing council of the Insurance Information Bureau of India.

My vision is that Indian Psychologists will be self-efficacious in Psychological Assessment. They will unearth the Indian cultures to explore psychological constructs in order to uplift the Indian Society at large through psychological researches. This will help us to involve in the policy formulation of the Government.

Please suggest me any other areas on which I can contribute as the convener of psychological assessment.

I solicit your kind co-operation .

Thanking you

With regards
D. Dutta Roy

I will endeavor to strengthen the perception that psychology acts in the public interest.  We must promote psychology as an ethical and moral profession whose research and practice are a positive influence on public policy and the lives of individuals.
